...'cause when it comes to bein' lucky, she's cursed.
The first build is never a straight story. Many ideas and a lot of time passed by.
But every build has its very early past:
This famous BMW R90S is with us since 1987. The bike was bought in Düsseldorf/Germany for little money. It was more a rolling wreck than anything else but we could not afford a bike in better state. The 90S was already a legend in the late 80ies, therefore it had to be that model – regardless of its sad conditions. The original fairing was lost, the seat was spoiled, the exhaust-pipes were painted black. The bike was far away from being “original” when it was bought. No matter, we wanted that engine and the myth.
After riding a few kilometres, the famous engine surprised with a serious break-down: The main crankshaft bearing was spoiled. The seller had tricked us by using viscous oil to hide the noise that the engine made. Ok, lesson learned.
But we were still addicted and recovered the engine and the rest of the bike in a reasonable way. After this, it was a reliable riding machine and made big fun and a lot of kilometers all over Europe until 1996, the year we moved to Portugal. The bike was stored in several places before it finally was brought to Porto. Unfortunately it was never ridden since then. Even worse, it was simply rotting away in the place where it was stored under bad conditions for almost 20 years.
The idea of a “R90S Tribute” build was born!
In May 2015 the bike was torn out of the garage. With the help of some ambitious friends we brought it back to hit the road in September 2016. After some pending changes of paintwork, mechanic stuff and design adaptations the final result was being presented at The Timers Motorsport Revival Festival“ in June 2017 in Oporto/Portugal. This is our first build. We call it: “Boxerlust“.
